Millions of people every year search for information on how they can work at home, make money online and change their lives without working. Unfortunately, there's no easy way of doing this. It's not easy -- it's hard. But it is simple.

Establishing an online website that generates revenue is a simply a question of achieving the work at home code: content = traffic = money. Provide great content and you'll get great traffic. The content of a website has to be valuable. However, like most things in life, "valuable" is completely relevant. However, on the Internet "valuable content" is simply content that is simply "remarkable" -- literally.

Newspapers contain remarkable content because people are interested in the latest happenings. How-to guides are valuable because people are constantly stumped on how they can do something. Great content simply depends on people.

I make my income writing about politics -- people are searching for issues related to policies (for school papers, common interest or other reasons) and stumble across my websites. For them, my content is valuable.

Consider your target audience: who's going to want your content? Who's going to care about the topic of your pages? That's your target. Write for them. Make them happy.

1. Increase Traffic

Without traffic, your website will die. The point of content is getting traffic. The point of traffic is getting money -- it all works out in the end. But the question is: how does one get traffic? Five basic ways, ordered by general importance:

5. Word of "Mouth"

Tell your family and co-workers. And your friends. And enemies. This will, at best, generate a few hundred visitors for your website. This is often stressed as being important -- but it's not really. It's great if you are already talking with them. Don't go out of your way and use up your "marketing" time on this. Focus on the stronger ways for building traffic.

4. Trade Links

Link trades are often great -- just trade "up". Trade with websites that are stronger and have more links pointing towards them than yours -- never trade "down". Link trades used to work great, but these days Google is making it harder to gain traffic from the method.

Another, often missed aspect of trading links is that non-agreement trade. Trading without saying you will. It's simple -- link to other webmasters in your posts or pages, and say something amazing about them. If your websites are similar and your content is great, you'll get some great links back to your site from the other website. Everyone wins.

3. Buy Advertising

Sometimes advertising is a great way of getting extremely targeted traffic -- people who really want what you have to offer, because they literally clicked on an advertisement regarding your topic. I haven't done much advertising, and don't find it necessary, but others have benefited greatly from it.

2. Write for Others

This one is one most bloggers and webmasters never get. Write for other people. Offer to write a page for another blog/website that is in your niche. If they agree, you get to link to your own website in the article. If they don't agree, you lose nothing for asking.

Also, you can write for article directories. Just Google "free articles" and publish articles to them. You can link to yourself in those articles.

1. Be Awesome

If you have super-awesome content, and use the marketing strategies above, you will get links. Just be patient. It might take a long time -- it probably will. But be awesome. And you'll get awesome results.

Making money with the website is actually the easy part. Google "AdSense", Google's great advertisement program. It's easy, unobtrusive and pays great. Or Google "affiliate programs" and find out some great affiliate programs.

The ways for making money online are so diverse, that it's something you'll just have to play with. Remember -- before focusing on money, you have to focus on traffic. Before focusing on traffic you have to focus on content.
